Accommodation

Earlybird registrations will open in July 2009, but in the meantime you can book your accommodation.

For this conference you will

be free to arrange your own accommodation at your preferred location: the sooner you do this, the more choice you will have. Canberra has a wide range of accommodation from 5 star, bed and breakfasts, self-contained apartments and hostels.

Please be aware that at the same time as District Conference, Canberra hosts Floriade which draws a wide range of people to the nation’s capital.

The good news is you can visit Floriade during your stay, but making your accommodation bookings earlier in case it gets crowded with Floriade visitors.

Extend your stay in the National Capital

It would be a wonderful opportunity to have an extra day and look around the city itself as well as attend the District Conference.

Venue

As the home of Federal Parliament from 1927 to 1988, Old Parliament House is synonymous with some of Australia’s most important moments, including the declaration of war in 1939 and the dismissal of the Whitlam Labor Government in 1975. Today Old Parliament House is a nationally listed heritage site and award-winning tourist attraction. In 2009, OPH is unveiling its new role with the Museum of Australian Democracy.

The District 24 Conference will be held in the Members Dining Rooms. These are beautifully maintained art deco rooms have hosted some of Australia’s historic events over 60 years with many world leaders including Queen Elizabeth II.

Confirmed Speakers

Leading in their fields

In this classic venue, the members of District 24 will be inspired and educated by some of Australia’s leading women from a diversity of fields.

Those confirmed as of February 2009 are:

PIP Val SarahMC for the Conference - Val Sarah, Past International President of Zonta International

District Governor of District 16 in 1986-1988 (when it encompassed all of Australia and New Zealand) and a member of the Zonta International Board for 8 years from 1992, Val is known to Zontians all over the world from her time as Zonta International President for the 1998-2000 Zonta Biennium.

It was a momentous time, embracing the celebration of Zonta’s 80th birthday in 1999, the end of a century and the dawn of a new millennium.  During this time, emails revolutionised the way Zonta conducts business, manuals needed to be revised, a legislative awareness and advocacy program came into being and a history of the organisation was written as a prelude to the centenary of Zonta in 2019.

Val tells us she is honoured to have been invited to participate in the District 24 Conference, and is looking forward to renewing friendships and listening to Zontians with enthusiastic ideas to share!
