Armidale Zontians had lots to celebrate on Australia Day:
- The Club's nominee for
Young Citizen of the Year, Peta Jeffery, was announced winner. Peta has demonstrated a commitment to the community as well as
displaying outstanding academic, sporting and leadership qualities.
The
Armidale Dumaresq Citizen of the Year was Rosemary Leitch, whose
philanthropic and general contributions to the area are legendary.
Rosemary, the only female Mayor to have served Armidale, has also been an
Honorary Zontian and continues to support Zonta in many ways, including
hosting in her home Gilbert and Sullivan concerts organised by Zonta to
raise funds for a school residence for a female teacher in Bhutan and Zonta
International projects.
- The Senior Citizen of the year was Judy Grieve, a
charter member of Zonta Armidale, and a recent guest speaker at a dinner
meeting. The awards were presented at an outdoor function at Armidale Race
Course, and were attended by many Zontians celebrating Australia Day and
honouring these worthy award recipients.
