the business, health and educational spheres although we have experience gained by a variety of careers and changing professions. Most have travelled widely and are keen to draw on all experiences.

The trademark of our Club is that we travel to support our fellow Zonta members in their work to advance the status of women and for fellowship.

Zonta Club of Macquarie

Committed to Zonta Service and good fellowship

This year the Club is celebrating 10 years of service to women in Australia and overseas. We meet on the third Wednesday of each month and go anywhere in the interest of Zonta service and good fellowship.

Knowing what a variety of support is required to achieve genuine progress, we support Zonta International projects as well as doing a range of hands on service in our own community.

The Club in action

Since the Club's charter in 1999, our direction has mainly focused on three areas identified by Zonta International as needing support for the advancing the status of women. These are:

Education of women: each year we provide 3 awards to women undertaking and achieving in studies that traditionally are not those considered the domain of women.

The awards are:

  • Outstanding female graduate in either Horticultural or Environmental Studies at Ryde TAFE.
  • Outstanding female graduate in either Hospitality or Tourism Studies at Ryde TAFE.
  • Outstanding female student at Marsden
  • High in Mathematics and Science.

Zonta CLub support for space camp 2008

In line with the Zonta International position paper

on "Improving the Access of Women and Girls to

Science, Mathematics and Technology Education",

Club members have been finding out about the

challenges for girls- recently, by hearing about a

group from a local school who attended

Space Camp in Alabama in 2008.

Health of women: on an ongoing basis, we make and supply breast cushions for patients at Concord, RPA and Canterbury Hospitals and fund and maintain wigs for the Wig Bank at Concord Hospital.

Economic status of women: we have provided funds to the women of the Balranald District who were without income in time of drought. We have also provided clothes, household goods and toys to women and children in need.

Fellowship: Our hands on service have provided a wealth of opportunities for fellowship, which we enjoy thoroughly. We also have service functions, visit other clubs and attend Zonta Workshops and Conferences.
