As a classified service club, Zonta International seeks a diversity of membership to ensure that the best possible mix of skills and talents is available to support the objects of Zonta International and the work of Zonta Clubs that are striving to advance the status of women. Successful Zonta Clubs also need a range of 'friends of Zonta' - people who may not wish to become members, but who will support projects or initiatives of that Zonta Club in some way.
With this in mind, the Organisation, Membership & Classification (OMC) Committee is primarily responsible for developing the 'people resources' of the District - whether that be members, or other 'friends of Zonta', or young women who wish to learn more about advancing the status of women through a Z Club or Golden Z Club. |

So there is no 'secret' business involved at all - part of the OMC Committee's role is to ensure openness and accountability in respect to membership of Zonta, organisation of Zonta Clubs and classification of members to ensure a suitable diversity of members in support of advancing the status of women.
Originally, membership of Zonta was open to business and professional women who wished to commit to the objects of Zonta International. Contemporary work being what it is, this definition now includes a very broad range of work involving decision making. |

It is also interesting to note that, over a decade ago, the Zonta International Bylaws were amended to allow Zonta Clubs to admit to membership men who were equally committed to the objects of Zonta, should they wish to do so. As classified service clubs, decisions about membership of a Zonta Club remain the right of that Club in accordance with their articles of association (which are in place as part of being an incorporated association).

That said, several Zonta Clubs in District 24 have duly amended their articles and now have members who are men. So if you are a man interested in Zonta membership, or know someone who may be, please let the OMC Chairman know by making a membership enquiry.
The OMC Committee also provides support to those who have volunteered to start a new Zonta Club - ie. they plan to sponsor, organise and mentor or 'SOM' a new Zonta Club. If you think that your community could benefit from a Zonta Club, or a local school could benefit from a Z Club, please contact the OMC Chairman.
