The Club in action

Picton Harmony were kind enough to donate their services for our 2011 Young Women in Public Affairs award
Members of the Zonta Club of Macarthur work to support international and local projects to further the mission of Zonta International, by improving the health, education and well being of women.
The Club supports a women’s refuge in our local area to assist women find a new life after experiencing domestic violence.
Supporting District 24 Endorsed Projects
The Club supports District 24 service projects by conducting community workshops to:
- Assemble Zonta birthing kits for distribution to women in developing country to assist them in having a safer childbirth.
- Finishing off, packaging and distributing breast care cushions to women who have undergone surgery for breast cancer.
As well as actually assembling the birthing kits, an important part of advancing the health status of these women, is making our community more aware of the issues faced by women in other places, so talking about the birthing kit project is part of what we do.
Awards

Governor Carolyn congratulating Lana Nguyen (Hurlstone Agricultural High School), our 2011 Young Women in Public Affairs winner went on to win the District 24 award as well!
Each year, the Club presents a perpetual trophy to the outstanding student in the fashion and design course at Macquarie Fields Campus, TAFE NSW.
In fact, the Club’s Zonta Breast Care Cushion project has been greatly enhanced by the work of the students in the fashion and design faculty at Macquarie Fields Campus, South Western Sydney Institute of TAFE NSW. An encouragement award is also presented to a student in this course.
For the first time in 2009, the Club presented a local university student undertaking business studies, with a Jane M Klausman Women in Business Scholarship.
We are very keen to identify other women eligible to be considered for this Award, especially given the extension of the eligibility criteria and additional prizes being offered.
Suggestions?
Do you have a suggestion for the Club for a service project or a group of women needing assistance in our area?

Hello,
I am a Geography teacher at Birrong Girls High School in south-western Sydney. Our school’s Amnesty Team has raised $ 1100 to assemble and send birthing kits to developing nations. Please provide us with information about community workshops on birthing kits.
Kind regards,
Mandeep
Hi Mandeep, What a generous and wonderful outcome! Thanks for co-ordinating with your students and supporting community service. This money can go towards the purchase of birthing kit materials, and the students can be involved in their packing and organising. The club can work with you directly.
