THE CLUB IN ACTION

Educational & professional

A $1,000 top up scholarship awarded annually to a female PhD candidate studying at the Mt. Stromlo Observatory (ANU) to support her living expenses. A $3,000 scholarship was awarded again this year to a young woman specialising in Law with aspirations to work for the United Nations to improve the status of women.

Safety and living skills

Supporting women’s refuges and homeless services in Canberra and surrounding areas with emergency toiletry packs, linen, towels, sleeping bags and swags, and kitchen packs for when the women move into public housing.

Professional & political

Conducting the “Young Women in Public Affairs Award”, a Zonta International programme for young women aged between 16 & 20, who do volunteer work in their local community. Club applications open in October each year. There is a $500 prize from the Club, plus the chance to win at District and International levels.

Health

By supporting Karinya House, a refuge and support centre for young mothers. We support Karinya in various ways, such as working bees at their homes, and supply of kitchen packs.

Health

The Club makes Zonta Breast Care Cushions and Zonta Birthing Kits. Sew, Stuff and Sip sessions are usually held three times a year, and we make enough cushions so that every woman in the ACT region who needs a cushion gets a cushion.

Safety

The Club arranges an activity to support Zonta says NO to violence against women to highlight awareness and change attitudes.

Would you like to know more

We are always looking for new members to join with us in delivering all these fabulous projects. If you are wanting to pitch in with other dynamic women, working together to advance the status of women, Zonta may be for you. You’ll have unique experiences, learn some new skills, make new friends, and teach us a thing or two as well! What do you want out of your community life? Email us to discuss possibilities.

SUPPORT

You don’t need to be a member of a Zonta club to contribute to Zonta’s efforts to improve the lives of women and girls. Service projects always need money – your donation to Zonta’s work in general or to a specified local or internal project is welcomed.
