THE CLUB IN ACTION
Health Status of Women
We make and supply breast care cushions for patients at RPA, Concord, Ryde and Macquarie University Private Hospitals. We also have funded and maintain wigs for the wig bank at Concord Hospital for women patients undergoing oncology treatment.
We are most grateful for the assistance provided to our work on these projects by financial contributions from City of Canada Bay Council and The Canada Bay Club; and for their sewing skills the members of the Gourmet Sewing Group, the residents of Windward Manor and students at the Marist Sisters College Woolwich.
Economic Status of Women
We work with the Eastwood Christian Community Centre to provide needs for women requiring financial assistance or shelter. This year we have given 25 IGA gift cards to women in western NSW who are facing difficulties due to the climatic circumstances. We do this with assistance of the Rural Financial Counselling Services in Dubbo.
Educational Status of Women
For 10 years we have provided two awards valued at $500 each to women undertaking and achieving in studies at the local TAFE Institute:
- outstanding female graduate in either Horticultural or Environmental studies at Ryde TAFE;
- outstanding female graduate in either Hospitality or Tourism studies at the Ryde TAFE.
- Other examples include assistance for country women, young girls achieving in Maths and Science and funds to year 12 students who are carers.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO KNOW MORE
Attend a meeting or event. This is a good way to find out more about Zonta (locally and internationally). Email your name and email address to be added to the club’s meeting and event invitation email lists. Prospective members are encouraged to attend at least two meetings/other events before submitting an application to join.
You don’t need to be a member of a Zonta club to contribute to Zonta’s efforts to improve the lives of women and girls. Service projects always need money – your donation to Zonta’s work in general or to a specified local or internal project is welcomed.
