She helped SOM some seven Zonta clubs, most recently, the Zonta Club of Hunter/Newcastle.
Marcia has also been a long-term member of UNIFEM Australia/UN Women Australia. She was its second National President, on the Organising Committee for International Women’s Day Breakfasts in Sydney for over 25 years, and, for 15 years, the maker of thousands of purple ribbons worn by IWD attendees across Australia.
Zontian Ann Selle Awarded OAM in 2017 Australia Day Honors
Ann Selle, a charter member of the Zonta Club of Botany Bay Inc in southern Sydney, is responsible for the Zonta Breast Care Cushion Project, a service project which is not only Australia-wide, but has spread internationally through Zonta International. It is one of the signature projects for which Zonta is proudly known.
The Breast Care Cushions Project has brought Zonta club members close to the world of breast cancer survivors and there has been a consequential involvement in related projects in the local community.
For example, in the Zonta Club of Botany Bay, each of these ‘flow-on’ projects have been initiated and led by Ann – they include the provision of new wigs to the Wig Library of Calvary Hospital for women who can’t afford their own during chemotherapy; the part funding of a biennial seminar conducted by the local breast care nursing team targeting the needs of young women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer; the collation and printing of a comprehensive booklet outlining all local services available to women following their diagnosis; and, the funding of a support DVD distributed to women in the early stages of their diagnosis as they are embarking on their breast cancer journey.
