Abbotsleigh College, Wahroonga

Abbotsleigh Z Club
Chartered: 2005

Sponsored by the Zonta Club of North Sydney

Located: Abbotsleigh School for Girls is in the northern suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales

Our goal is to raise awareness of world issues for ourselves and the school community. As we learn and educate ourselves and our peers about women’s circumstances in developing countries we become more aware of how fortunate we are and that not many women have the same opportunities as we do in our home country. We have supported these causes through awareness campaigns and fundraising.

Over 2024, the Abbotsleigh Z Club has participated in many fundraising events to raise awareness about violence against women.

On International Women’s Day, Club members handed out purple ribbons at the front gate to symbolise justice and loyalty to supporting women’s rights, followed by a bake sale to raise funds for Hornsby Women’s Shelter.

Fundraising stalls were held each term, including an ice-cream and soda stall at our school cross country carnival, and two more bake sales, to raise money for Hornsby Women’s Shelter, and for Zonta’s ‘Clean Birthing Kits’ initiative.

As our 2024 leadership group comes to a close, we look forward to supporting the incoming Zonta leaders for the year ahead. In 2025, we plan to continue our fundraising events and potentially participate in the school’s International Women’s Day assembly, along with helping our local Zonta clubs with the clean birthing kits project.
