GOVERNOR’S ZONTA SPIRIT AWARD

Governor’s Zonta Spirit Award

Congratulations to Lily – Winner of the D24 Governor’s Zonta Spirit Award!

We are thrilled to announce that Lily Cowen, of the Zonta Club of Nepean Valley, has been named the recipient of the D24 Governor’s Zonta Spirit Award – a well-deserved recognition of her extraordinary dedication, leadership, and embodiment of the Zonta ideals. The Zonta Spirit Award honours individuals who personify the essence of Zonta through community building, connection, and positive club culture. Lily exemplifies this spirit in every sense.

With 32 years of unwavering commitment to Zonta, Lily has made a lasting and profound impact on her club and the wider Zonta community. Since attending her first Zonta International Convention in 1994, she has shared her passion and experiences with others, inspiring fellow members to engage more deeply with Zonta’s mission and vision.

As Club Membership Chair, Lily has been instrumental in growing her club, personally recruiting many of its 31 members through warm, informal coffee mornings that welcome newcomers into the Zonta family. Her remarkable ability to recognise and nurture others’ talents has helped many find their place within the club and feel a true sense of belonging.

Despite facing significant health challenges in recent years, Lily’s commitment has never wavered. She continues to attend meetings, mentor new members, and prioritise the wellbeing of others — always reaching out to those who are unwell or absent and hosting monthly birthday teas to foster connection and friendship.

Her contributions also include co-chairing the Breast Cushion Committee, where she organises “Stuffing Days” — events that combine volunteer work with fellowship and support for women undergoing breast cancer treatment.

Lily’s lasting legacy includes:

 Assisting in the formation of the Zonta Clubs of Blue Mountains and Blacktown

 Initiating the club’s 30-year TAFE Award project

 Launching the club’s involvement in the Young Indigenous Woman Award

Lily’s service, warmth, and tireless advocacy make her an extraordinary role model for Zontians everywhere. She truly lives and breathes the Zonta Spirit — and we could not be

prouder to celebrate her achievements. Please join us in congratulating Lily on this remarkable honour!

The Governor’s Zonta Spirit Award is a special honour presented at each District 24 Conference to recognise a Zontian who exemplifies the true spirit of Zonta. This award celebrates members who go above and beyond to foster connection, build community, and create a positive and inclusive club culture. It’s not about titles or years of service—but about generosity, encouragement, and a genuine commitment to supporting fellow members. These are the quiet leaders and everyday heroes who make Zonta stronger from within.

Nominate a Zontian Who Inspires

Do you know a Zontian who brings out the best in others? Someone who fosters connection, builds community, and creates a positive, welcoming club culture?

The Governor’s Zonta Spirit Award celebrates members who personify Zonta Spirit—not through formal leadership roles, but through their everyday actions, kindness, and commitment to helping others.

Nominees should reflect qualities like:

  • A generous and supportive nature

  • A “can-do” attitude and willingness to get involved

  • Active participation in committees and club life

  • An inclusive, positive presence at meetings

  • Dedication to empowering women through local efforts

This is our opportunity to recognise those who go above and beyond to make Zonta strong from the inside out.
